With more than 30 years of portrait photography experience, we understand the process of producing a unique portrait and welcome your suggestions to help make your portrait truly memorable.

So, you're ready to prepare for your family portrait? Great! You've come to the right place! Whether you choose an outdoor location, or one of our many beautiful studio backgrounds, we promise to help you create an heirloom that captures your family's personality and will be treasured for years to come.

In order to achieve the highest quality portrait, it is important to select flattering clothing in colors that coordinate with each other. There are endless options for clothing, and we know that it may seem overwhelming, so we'd like to help you out along the way.

Questions you should ask yourself:

First of all, are you looking for a formal portrait, for example, where the men are dressed in suits and ties? Or is your family more on the casual side?

Would you like your picture taken inside or out?

If you're taking your portrait outdoors, where will it be? At the beach? In the fall foilage? Think about what colors are going to be in the background, and select clothing that coordinates with your location.

Where is the completed portrait going to hang? Selecting colors that coordinate with the decor of the room would enhance the quality even further.

Tips for Selecting Colors:

No matter what background or location you choose, the most important thing to consider is that your colors coordinate with each other.

If you'd like to play it safe, medium shades of blues, greens, or purples are flattering to most skin tones.

For most families, one to two colors look best.

Consider having all the girls where one color and all the boys where another color.

Definitely avoid bright/loud patterns that distract from the face.

Shirts with sleaves are generally more flattering than sleaveless.

Select a style and color(s) that your family feels comfortable in. The more comfortable you are, the more natural and relaxed you will look.
